Kennebec Vet Service is a full service small animal clinic. The following are some of our general policies and services. We are here to meet the needs of your pets. It is our pleasure to serve you, our clients and the four-legged members of your family.
Appointment times are available six days a week. However, pets, like people, do not plan illnesses and emergencies arise. If you are unable to keep an appointment, a call is much appreciated. For your pet's safety, we require that animals be placed on a leash or in a carrier when coming into the clinic.
Preventative health care is the most important part of your pet's continued well-being. We routinely send out reminders to our clients to ensure that this important aspect is not overlooked. Although an individual pet's needs may vary, following are some guidelines:
Vaccination programs for puppies and kittens should begin before 8 weeks of age. Boosters are given at 3-week intervals until 14-16 weeks of age. Yearly boostering of vaccines is recommended, except in specific circumstances or cases. Rabies vaccination is required by state law.
Neutering of dogs and cats is recommended after 6 months of age. Spaying before the first heat cycle has been proven to significantly reduce the incidence of certain types of cancers later in life.
Dental health care is important. Dental cleaning and polishing should be performed as your pet's needs dictate. We perform routine teeth cleaning and polishing, as well as extractions and other dental procedures as necessary to maintain oral health.
Heartworm Prevention through blood testing and use of a recommended preventative is strongly encouraged for all of our canine patients.
Nutritional Counseling is an important part of your pet's overall health. We can make sound recommendations on feeding your pet to optimize their health and longevity.

Hospital Information

Our Hospital
Our clinic is well equipped with current technology and informed personnel. While we stress preventative health care, we are pleased to offer high-quality diagnostic services, including the latest radiology and blood testing equipment. We routinely perform most required laboratory tests in-house to provide a prompt response to your pet's health needs. In special cases, we also have access to an extensive referral network of veterinary specialists.
We have individual wards to separate cats from dogs , including 4 large indoor runs. In addition we have an isolation unit to keep potentially infectious animals segregated from the others, as well as Intensive care cages, for animals needing maximum attention. We operate in a separate surgical suite and use surgical masks, caps, and sterile gowns and gloves during routine neuters as well as major surgeries. Isofluorane gas anesthesia is routinely used, as well as extensive patient monitoring devices, offering increased safety and more rapid recovery from surgical and dental procedures. We also stock a comprehensive pharmacy to ensure prompt medical treatment for your pet.
We do not board or groom pets but can provide references for these services. However, if your pet requires special medical care, we may be able to hospitalize your pet while you are away. In special cases, pets may be bathed or dipped to treat medical conditions.
